Robert Randolph and the Family Band with Kenny Wayne Shepherd guesting THE CANYON CLUB 2/28/2014
I happened to see Robert Randolph and the Family Band back in the summer of 2004 (almost ten years ago!) when they opened for Eric Clapton at the Hollywood Bowl. I was instantly blown away by the music and performance. At the end of the evening, I left the show liking their set the best.
A few years later, I was lucky enough to see them again opening for Dave Matthews Band. Again, their set was the highlight of the evening.
I was thrilled to hear that they were playing the Canyon.
As expected, from the opening note of his pedal steel guitar to the end, the show was fantastic. His guitar playing is unreal. He broke a string and had to have it fixed while he was playing. It was actually pretty entertaining to watch.
Very early on into the set, he went ahead and introduced Kenny Wayne Shepherd. They jammed on three songs together. Kenny just played The Canyon a few weeks ago and his band totally rocked, too.
The entire show was awesome. There were some catchy tunes off the new album – Lickety
Split and the band just flat out rocks all kinds of styles – it was funky, bluesy, raw and powerful. I’d see this band again and again. And I’m not usually a big fan of slide guitar playing and blues, but I can;t say enough about this group.
Here’s the band’s EPK – it’s pretty awesome:

THE PETTYBREAKERS AXS TV’S World’s Greatest Tribute Bands Hosted by KATIE DARYL The Whisky 2/24/2014

Tonight’s show was the midpoint of Season 3 (show #8 of of 15), as “The Pettybreakers” paid tribute to Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.
We got a quick glimpse of The Pettybreakers earlier in Season 3 when Ozzie Mancelli (playing Tom Petty) joined Bella Donna (Michelle Tyler playing Stevie Nicks) onstage for some Petty/Nicks duets.
The Pettybreakers just recorded the first three songs on the newest AXS TV release available on iTunes (the songs are Change of Heart, Learning to Fly, You Got Lucky):
The recordings are great (and Change of Heart is my all-time favorite Petty song).
Katie Daryl introduced the band and the event got underway. MORE PICS OF KATIE I think I could hear Katie Daryl say that Tom Petty last played The Whisky in 1980, so if I heard that correctly, it’s pretty cool. In any case, the band came out and jammed some of Tom…

THE FAB FOUR THE CANYON CLUB THE FAB 4 – 2/21/2014
GREGG BISSONETTE and COBUS POTGIETER LIVE SHOW DRUM CHANNEL DC LIVE DRUMCHANNEL.COM 2/20/2014

Gregg Bissonette rocked some tracks on from his new album: “Warning Will Robinson” on the live show tonight on DrumChannel.com. In addition to playing all kinds of styles of cool drumming and a surprisingly good vocal performance by Gregg throughout, he also has some pretty wild dub step grooves in his tunes, which was a really cool curveball. He delivered a stunning performance of several selections on the album. The studio crowd was all smiles.
After performing two tunes from the new album/ first independent release, he then hopped on the couch to discuss his aforementioned new CD release, his upcoming 3-day Groove Camp in Thousand Oaks, CA from March 14-16, 2014 , as well as other good things he has in the works.
The new CD is cool in that there are 2 discs – the second of which has the music sans the drum tracks. To accompany the purchase of the album (which can be purchased on iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon), Gregg has also included the CHARTS for all the songs. Very cool!
Later in the second segment, Cobus Potgieter joined Gregg on the couch and they talked about his new band, Ventura Lights and they took some viewer questions from the audience on the Internet. Cobus actually has a pretty convincing Southern accent.
Gregg also acknowledged and gave some kind words to his buddy Dean Zimmer (of “Drummer Wanted” fame and DW endorsee), who was in the studio audience.
After the break and to close out the show, Gregg and Cobus hopped on their drum kits and rocked the title track “Warning Will Robinson”.
Another fantastic Drum Channel performance! This will be a great one to watch over and over again.
