Fans that got to Sunday’s California Beer Festival Blues and BBQ day right as the doors opened were treated to a fulls set of some super-charged blues by the Winner of the 2011 Guitar Center King of the Blues guitar contest, Jonathon “Boogie” Long and his incredible trio from Louisiana.

Boogie and his band wowed the crowd with truly incredible blues playing that was chock full of of style, technique and soul.

A true legend in the making, Boogie and his bunch are quite the bluesmen.   His vocals are great and his guitar playing is just out of this world.   Not only does he play the blues like the guitar legends before him, but he also incorporates some very technical guitar playing that almost bordered on neoclassical playing with tapping, sweep picking and arpeggios.   One audience member said he kind of had a Shawn Lane vibe, which is pretty spot on.   The fleet fingered soloing and great tunes made for a spectacular start to a great day of the blues.

It was obvious that Boogie and the band were truly happy to be jamming on a beautiful Southern California morning.   They just did a red carpet for “We Are Kings” – a new movie about the blues.   This band has the potential to be the next Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.   If there’s any justice in the world, they will have a long successful career in the industry.

This was an incredibly special show and it completely rocked. Technical difficulties had the show pushed back to almost 11:00, but they could have played all night.

There could have been an OZZY reunion at this show!

Everyone out front was talking about Ozzy being there at the show. Robert Trujillo was obviously there. Roy Mayorga was also there, and so was Joe Holmes, who has also Mass Mental’s monster drummer Ken Schalk and Robert featured on his new band Farmikos’ upcoming full release (coincidentally, Brooks Wackerman is also a Mass Mental member, former member of Infectious Grooves and contributor to the new Farmikos album as well, but he’s currently touring with Bad Religion – footage of Brooks, Robert and Armand from Guitar Center Drum Off 2011) .

TERESA RUSSELL SURFSIDE SEAFOOD (formerly Andy’s) HUENEME BEACH FESTIVAL

Concertologist's avatarCONCERTOLOGIST - 2014

In looking forward to seeing Teresa Russell play tomorrow (Sunday 8/17/2014) at the Hueneme Beach Festival, it was a total treat to see her playing guitar on the patio of Seaside Seafood (it was called Andy’s back at least until early to mid- 2000s), which is located right next to the event. Teresa is a local guitar legend and could easily be considered the female Stevie Ray Vaughan of Ventura County. Along with her great vocal ability, she deserves to be up there with the true guitar greats. DSC00428

Most every casual, local concertgoer, music fan and fair event attendee has seen her perform over the years and she always delivers.

After grabbing a seat on the patio situated on Hueneme Beach, Teresa tore into some incredible acoustic Spanish guitar – some of the best guitar work you could imagine. It was a true clinic of guitar playing and musicianship.

Rock Against MS‎ "BEAT MS" DRUM CIRCLE HOSTED BY STEPHEN PERKINS Paramount Ranch Agoura Hills, CA 8/10/2014

MS blows. My uncle is in his mid-50s. His occupation was very physically demanding and he was strong beyond belief. When I was a teenager. He’d usually come pick me up at my house and we’d go to concerts together. When I was about 15, he took me to see Aerosmith and Dokken at the Long Beach Arena on a school night. Another time, he rented a limo to take me and my best friend to go see Night Ranger. We always had a fun time together at shows over the years and I have great memories of him giving me the rock star treatment.

Sometime in the 90s, he was starting to experience some physical problems and he had to take a big step back from his work. After many doctor visits, he was eventually diagnosed with MS. Seeing what it has done to his quality of life has…
