Dean Zimmer with Terry Bozzio, Gregg Bissonette, Doane Perry, Myron Grombacher and Al Velasquez, Jr. Drum Channel Studios 9/27/2013
Dean Zimmer is finally getting his due. After his YouTube video caught the attention of people on the Internet, he made the news, was covered in Rolling Stone, The Huffington Post and many other news sources around the world. Having Dean on the Drum Channel has actually been in the works for many years.
The live Drum Channel show started with Terry Bozzio jamming with Dean.
Stanley Gonzales and Ross Harris – the guys behind “Drummer Wanted : Dean Zimmer”.
They continue gathering footage and documenting Dean’s incredible story.
After the initial jam, Dean and The Woodland Hills Drum Club hopped on the couch and discussed Mark Craney (R.I.P. – he founded the drum club in his garage in 1985 and had some incredible members over the years), Dean’s start in drumming, moving to California from South Dakota (where Mark Craney befriended Dean many years) and jamming with some of drumming’s greats over the years.![]()

DW endorsee Al Velasquez hopped on the couch after the break and discussed his close friendship with his pal Dean.
Following their conversation, the guys got up on the four kits onstage and jammed to close out the show. Seeing all the smiles and looks of pure joy on the faces of everyone in attendance, along with the incredible playing over the course of the show was an very special experience.
MORE PICS
All of Dean’s friends in the studio were incredibly proud of Dean. And rightfully so. As usual, Dean “killed it”.
The sparkly new kit was given to Dean, as was an endorsement from DW.
Dean perhaps had the best “roadies” ever, as an all-star cast loaded his new kit into his van.
What a great way to celebrate such an inspirational and talented individual.
Dean has an upcoming session booked and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his wish and finds himself a band.

Stewart Copeland, Cobus Potgieter and Thomas Lang Drum Channel Oxnard, CA 9/24/2013
This was a great evening at the Drum Channel studios in Oxnard. Seeing a Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer of one of my all-time favorite bands ever (and one of the Top 5 of concerts I’ve ever seen) was an incredible experience. (No real spoilers here in case you didn’t catch the show live and plan on seeing the replay).
The show started with Cobus interviewing Stewart. They each discussed how they each started out on drums, Stewart’s studio (Sacred Grove) and several other interesting topics about music before jumping into an improvisational jam.

From there, they moved over to the couch area and were joined by Thomas Lang.

Stewart named all of his favorite Police songs to play. He also made mention of the fact that drummers are less competitive than guitar players. He hit the nail on the head with that one and was very funny (And, at the…
