DSB OAK CANYON PARK 6/22/2013
Summer concerts in the park are awesome. DSB drew a huge crowd to Oak Park on a very beautiful day. The first set was a bunch of Journey classics that had the park rocking. They came back for the second set and played other popular tunes, including songs by Def Leppard, Whitesnake, AC/DC and The Outfield. It was a great way to start the summer.
Juan Del Castillo – vocals
Roger Cain- guitar
Henry O’Neill- keyboards
Tony Love- bass
Scotty Kormos – drums
I’ve never seen a CVS Pharmacy Rewards Card used for picking a bass before. That was hilarious.
And with the low ceiling of the portable stage, combined with the drum riser, I’ve also never seen a ceiling used for drums at a show before….![]()

And a little fan participation on the guitar was very cool, too.

I saw ABC as the headliners on the Regeneration Tour in 2009 and they were fantastic.
Seeing them play a somewhat longer set in a much smaller venue The Canyon Club was great.
Martin Fry is an extremely talented vocalist and, like always, he can still belt it out.
He’s 55 and he still looks and sounds exactly like he did on MTV in the 80s.
I think Martin is the only original remaining member of ABC. He has a great backing band and the bass player can pull off all the cool bass lines from the old tunes.
This was a great “mature synth pop” concert.
The best tunes of his set were the greatest hits: Poison Arrow, (How to Be a) Millionaire, When Smokey Sings, Be Near Me and The Look of Love

Being able to go to The Canyon to see a band that was so huge in the 80s was awesome. The place was packed without forty- and fifty-somethings that were ready to rock.
The line-up is Bobby Blotzer on the drums, Stephen Pearcy on vocals (saw him solo last year with Bobby guesting), Juan Croucier on bass, Warren DeMartini and Carlos Cavazo on lead guitar. Carlos is a great addition to the band. As a shredder in Quiet Riot back in the 80s, he does a fine job opposite Warren DeMartini.
They covered material from quite a few of their albums and they played a lot of the songs that the crowd wanted to hear. Those old riffs are classic. And they played better than I thought they would. It wasn’t the best concert ever, but it was a fun time and was definitely a rocking Friday at The Canyon. Here’s to 80s metal.
