TRIBUTE BANDS 2014

Photo: Get ready!

The Fab Four from Season 2 of AXS TV’s The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands put on an incredible tribute to the Beatles. People want to hear the songs they love. It only makes sense that a great tribute band that can faithfully recreate the music and experience of classic concerts by playing some of the best songs ever written can be way more successful and popular than current, original touring acts.

The Wings Band, which has several members of the Fab Four (founder Ardy Sarraf and Ron McNeil), recently performed an incredible 90 minute set of Paul McCartney solo, Wings and Beatles tunes at The Canyon Club in January. How good are they? Laurence Juber, guitarist for the Wings in the late 70s, got up and jammed with the band during the show. This show guaranteed an amazing performance on AXS TV’s World’s Greatest Tribute Bands.

PREVIEW OF THE NO DUH SHOW

The No Duh live telecast on AXS TV ‘s The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands had a packed crowd and it was a huge party to pay tribute to No Doubt. Several famous musicians and actors were in attendance for the event. As promised by the band, there were lots of surprises during the show. The hour seemed to go by in a matter of minutes as the band played songs by No Doubt, some solo material from Gwen Stefani and a few cool, rather random cover tunes thrown in for good measure. The crowd loved every minute of it and the band delivered a very entertaining show that kept on pace with that of a No Doubt concert, which is an incredible feat. (I’ve seen No Doubt and Gwen several times in the past and their concerts were total, nonstop action.) Immediately following the…

LOS LOBOS THE CANYON CLUB 1/30/2014

2014 Concerts

I’ve seen Los Lobos several times over the last 20+ years and they are always an awesome band in concert.
I once saw them play a show with Fishbone and Tom Waits. Another time, they played at the Experience Hendrix show alongside Living Colour, Joe Satriani and others on the bill that ou wouldn’t think of pairing with Los Lobos.

They’ve been a band for around 40 years and they still put on a great show. I’m pretty sure these are all original/ founding members of the band.
Their music is very diverse and they are fantastic musicians.

For this show, they played close to a two hour set that included some folk, ranchero music, a little R&B, with lots of rock and blues. A little accordion here, a few little guitars there, some saxophone…… it was cool.

Their encore included “Cinammon Girl” by Neil Young and “La Bamba” –…

That Metal Bar- VIPER ROOM- a must-see event if you are a metal head!

THAT METAL BAR – DJ Dave Wave and Railroad to Alaska The Viper Room 10/4/2012 After HCTM, I took a stroll to The Viper Room just before midnight so I could finally witness That Metal Bar – the brainchild of true heavy metal aficionado "DJ Dave Wave" When I went upstairs, there was a killer band playing called Railroad To Alaska. They rocked. The singer/guitarist had a great stage presence about him and he sounded really good. It was heavy music, for sure. At one point, they did a song with a rather contrasting intro that had some pretty intense vocal harmonies before rocking out. It was quite unexpected, but the song got pretty heavy from there. This was another band I just happened to see at The Viper Room that I’d definitely go back again for (All Hail The Yet was the band I became a fan of the last time I was there.

After their set, DJ Dave Wave prepared for his heavy metal DJ show. Dave is the true embodiment of heavy metal. His love for the music definitely drives the energy in the room. He’s decked out 80s metal-style and has a great DJ/ lighting rig.   The green lasers were really great…. and women dancing to metal?  That’s a huge win right there….   DJ Dave Wave rocked out, played some great metal tunes, did a little singing and growling along with it (he does a good job there as well) and had some dancers onstage and I typically don’t say this about too many shows, but I can say without a doubt that a trip to That Metal Bar on a THURSDAY NIGHT is definitely worth the time, effort and money.   Go see it if metal if your thing.
